​Swayambhu Chaitanyam: Local legend has it that this temple got its name 'Vattakkad' from the divine spirit that was formed in the middle of a large forest (Vattakkad) in Vatta.


​Part of agricultural culture: In the past, the ancestors of the area worshipped Bhagavathy by settling her in the caves to protect agriculture and the good of the land, which later became a large temple.


​Onattukara tradition: Being part of the Onattukara culture, which is adjacent to the Bharanikavu and Chettikulangara temples, it is a major refuge for the devotees of the goddess. The legends of this temple are embellished with elaborate decorations and local festivals.
