VICE PRESIDENT
The Gram Panchayat Vice President is the second highest representative in the administrative body of a Gram Panchayat. The Vice President, who is democratically elected from the ward members, is legally responsible for performing the full administrative duties of the Panchayat in the absence of the President. The Vice President is also the Chairman of the Finance Standing Committee of the Panchayat.
Key Responsibilities & Powers
Leadership in the absence of the President: To perform all the powers and duties of the President when the President is on leave or when the post is vacant.
Chairman of the Finance Standing Committee: As per the Kerala Panchayat Raj Act, the Vice President is the Chairman of the most important Finance Standing Committee of the Panchayat. This committee directly supervises the revenue generation, tax collection and budget preparation of the Panchayat.
Plan Coordination: To play a key role in preparing the annual development plans of the Panchayat and ensuring that funds are utilized properly.
Supervision: Protect the public assets of the panchayat and evaluate the development activities in various wards.
Participation in the Administrative Committee: Provide critical support in the daily administrative decisions of the panchayat along with the President and Secretary.
